EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING of January 9, 2007, with Mayor Don Mullen and Commissioners Alan Marsh, Amy Patterson, Hank Ross, H. N. James, and Dennis DeWolf present.

Also present were Richard Betz, Bill Harrell, Bill Coward, Kim Lewicki, and Linsey Wisdom.


I.    Call to Order.

The Mayor reported that he had called this Emergency Board Meeting.  Notice pursuant to law had been provided the previous day to the Board and to the media.  He called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. and announced that the Board needed to go into Closed Session to discuss a personnel matter.
 

II.    Business.

MOVED BY COMM. MARSH, SECONDED BY COMM. PATTERSON, AND UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED TO GO INTO CLOSED SESSION PURSUANT TO G. S. §143-318.11(A)(6) TO DISCUSS A PERSONNEL MATTER.  All present left the meeting room except the Town Administrator, the Police Chief, and the Town Attorney.

    The Board discussed Larry Gantenbein.  After some time, the Town Administrator and the Police Chief were asked to leave the room, and were then called back to the room together with the others present.

MOVED BY COMM. PATTERSON, SECONDED BY COMM. DEWOLF, AND UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED TO GO INTO OPEN SESSION.

MOVED BY COMM. PATTERSON, SECONDED BY COMM. MARSH, AND UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED TO TERMINATE THE EMPLOYMENT OF LARRY GANTENBEIN AS TOWN PLANNER/ZONING ADMINISTRATOR.

MOVED BY COMM. ROSS, SECONDED BY COMM. MARSH, AND UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED TO APPOINT A COMMITTEE TO LOOK AT THE ORGANIZATION OF THE TOWN IN GENERAL.  The Mayor appointed Comms. Ross, Patterson, and James to said Committee.

MOVED BY COMM. ROSS, SECONDED BY COMM. DEWOLF, AND UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED TO APPOINT RICHARD BETZ INTERIM ZONING ADMINISTRATOR.


III. MOVED BY COMM. PATTERSON, SECONDED BY COMM. MARSH, AND UNANIMOUSLY CARRIED TO ADJOURN.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was declared by the Mayor to be adjourned at 9:12 a.m.
