Electric
The Town of Highlands provides electric service to all of the Town limits and some of the Horsecove Community. The Town's electric crew provides 24-hour on-call service. For after-hours outages, call the non-emergency number at Macon County Dispatch at 828-526-4131.

Water / Sewer
Water service is available across most of the Town limits. Sewer service is available only in certain areas inside of the Town limits.

Sanitation
Trash collection occurs every day except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Residential customers receive two pickups per week. Residential pickups occur on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, depending on your location (Please see the Garbage Pickup Map). Bear-resistant toters are required. It is the responsibility of the property / business owner to purchase a bear-resistant toter. Toters must be out by 7 am to ensure pickup. All trash must be bagged and within the toter with the lid closed.
Commercial trash collection occurs seven days per week. Commercial customers must specifically request the number of pickups needed per week.

Streets
The Town's Street Crew cleans the sidewalks and streets in downtown Highlands twice per week, in the early morning hours. The Crew maintains road right-of-ways, conducts road repairs, cleans drainage systems, and removes trees & debris from Town streets. The Crew removes snow & ice and applies a salt mixture to the Town streets within the winter months.
